Deryl McKissack is President and Chief Executive Officer of McKissack & McKissack, an architecture, environmental engineering and program management firm. As an outgrowth of her family business, Ms. McKissack founded the company in 1990, as a sole entrepreneur working with very limited financial resources. Through her leadership and vision, McKissack & McKissack has grown to 150 employees, with offices in
Ms. McKissack’s passion for excellence has defined the culture of McKissack & McKissack, which provides quality services in the areas of health care, environmental, government, education, residential, sports and recreational, commercial and transportation, among others. The firm’s successful track record is represented by the following projects: new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, renovation of the Main U.S. Treasury Building, restoration of the Thomas Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, Chicago and D.C. Public Schools—various contracts, Chicago Housing Authority’s Capital Improvement Plan Programs, new Washington Convention Center, new Washington Nationals Major League Baseball Stadium, O’Hare International Airport Modernization Program, Chicago’s McCormick Place expansion and the new Baltimore Hilton Hotel and Convention Center.
Prior to launching her own company, Ms. McKissack worked directly with the President of Howard University. Her leadership at the institution was marked by successfully managing a $32 million operating budget and capital budget exceeding $200 million, which covered three campuses, 133 buildings and 900 employees. Earlier in her career, she worked for both Turner Construction Company and Dames & Moore Group, leaders in the construction and engineering industries.
