Andrea Cohen

For the past 20 years, Andrea Cohen has been a leader in eldercare business development, transforming the way private-pay services are delivered through a series of successful, widely replicated ventures. Throughout her career, her driving vision has been to create a society where seniors can age in place by developing innovative home care options and supporting family caregivers. As HouseWorks CEO, she has crafted pioneering partnerships for providing services to residents of long-term care facilities, senior housing, and naturally occurring retirement communities such as Beacon Hill Village – a neighborhood retirement community in downtown Boston.

In recognition of her elder care expertise and vision, Ms. Cohen was selected as an At-Large delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA). As a delegate, she helped shape recommendations to the President and Congress that will influence national aging policies for the next decade and beyond. A passionate advocate for family caregivers, Ms. Cohen co-founded the Family Caregiver Coalition of New England and organized the Boston Family Caregiver Town Hall Meeting, a PBS forum that was taped during the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

Ms. Cohen is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Family Caregiver's Association, the National Private Duty Association, the Massachusetts Home Care Alliance, the Massachusetts Compassionate Care Coalition, and the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. She was recently appointed to the newly formed Kenneth B. Schwartz Center Council and is a long-standing member of the NewBridge on the Charles/Dedham Project Committee of Hebrew SeniorLife. Ms. Cohen is also an active member of The Commonwealth Institute and has lectured at Harvard, MIT, and Boston College on senior health, work/family, and business development issues. Her many accomplishments have been featured in the New York Times, Entrepreneur Magazine, the Boston Business Journal, Harvard Magazine, and Women's Business. A long-time resident of the Boston area, Ms. Cohen received her MSW from Boston College and completed her undergraduate studies at Ithaca College in upstate New York.
