Nancy Brinker
Over 150 women business leaders and executives came together for a power lunch, emceed by local news anchor Susan Wornick, to hear Ambassdor Nancy G. Brinker tell the story of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Brinker's memoir, Promise Me: How a Sister's Love Launched the Global Movement to End Breast Cancer, was published this week and the audience had the chance to be one of the first in Boston to purchase this book. Brinker captured the audiences' attention with her touching story of starting this worldwide movement to eradicate breast cancer and added poignant anecdotes about her sister Susan who passed away from this disease in 1980. Brinker talked about "creating havoc and picking a fight" to do something good, a motto that has served her well in an uphill battle to create awareness. But her comments were also serious as she described the stigma of breast cancer and the tremendous work that still needs to be done to end breast cancer forever. Video of Ambassador Brinker's remarks will be on the TCI website shortly. We are proud to announce that 10% of the profits from yesterday's lunch will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure!

TCI Member Sylvia Ferrell-Jones, President and CEO of YWCA Boston, also spoke and highlighted the generous funding the YWCA receives from Komen. Ferrell-Jones shared her experiences in TCI's Forum for Nonprofit Executive Directors, emphasizing the help and support that her experienced and wise peers have provided over the past year. The must-attend monthly meetings give her encouragement from the people who "get it." Tracey Armstrong, President and CEO of Copyright Clearance, added additional insights into her own CEO Forum experience by saying that the learning that takes place is the key to continued to growth. Her own group has become a sounding board and a "sacred spot", further fueled by the diversity of businesses in her Forum. The business fundamentals of adapt, change, and grow are always discussed in this confidential and trusting environment.
