They will address issues such as how to:
- Identify intellectual property that would be of value to another business, without giving away trade secrets
- Define the target market of a licensing deal and locate potential customers
- Avoid pitfalls when structuring a licensing deal

Moderator
Hollie Baker, Vice Chair, Intellectual Property Department, Hale and Dorr
LLP
Hollie Baker counsels clients on patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret,
and unfair competition law, with a specialized focus on patent, licensing,
and litigation matters relating to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical
industry. Ms. Baker has written several articles on biotechnology patent
practice and licensing that have been published in professional journals.
Panelists
Marina Hatsopolous, Co-Founder and CEO of Z Corporation
Marina Hatsopoulos negotiated the license to MIT's 3D Printing technology
and co-founded Z Corporation in 1994. Z Corporation sells 3D Printers that
make physical, three-dimensional models directly from a computer design
file. The Company had revenues of $11.3 million in 2001. Z Corporation was
first place winner of the elite "New England Technology Fast 50" for 2001, a
ranking of the 50 fastest-growing technology companies in the region, and
she was honored with Mass. High Tech's All-Star Award for Hardware in 2001.
Evan Kaplan
Evan Kaplan has representing various technology, manufacturing, educational
and publishing companies for more than a decade, including most recently the
Princeton University Press and Harcourt's educational, scientific, medical,
and trade publishing divisions. Evan is the former Chairperson of the
Association of American Publisher's Copyright Education Committee and was a
recent guest panelist at the National Association of College and University
Attorneys' Convention. In addition to his intellectual property background,
Evan has a broad range of corporate, licensing and transactional experience,
including 5 years of in-house work for Raytheon Company. He holds a B.A. in
Economics from Brandeis University and a J.D. from Boston University School
of Law.
David P. Bernstein, President & CEO, Trexel, Inc.
David Bernstein has been President & CEO of Trexel since late 1995, where he
has led the development and global commercialization of the MuCell
Microcellular Foam Process within the worldwide plastics industry. Prior to
that he was a Vice President of Teradyne, Inc., the world's leading
semiconductor test equipment company and a Vice President of Thermedics
Detection, a supplier of trace level inspection systems to the international
bottling industry. Mr. Bernstein specializes in the marketing and
implementation of new industrial technologies. He holds an undergraduate
degree from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School, and is
a lifelong resident of Boston, MA.
