The John Hancock Fellowship Program In Conjunction with The Commonwealth Institute and Simmons School of Management The John Hancock Fellowship program is a partnership between John Hancock Financial Services, The Commonwealth Institute (TCI), and the Simmons School of Management. During the initial pilot in the fall of 2004, a select number of recent graduates of the Simmons MBA program are chosen as John Hancock Fellows. The Fellows were paired with WEDI entrepreneurs and provided them with consulting services over a 10-week period. These services were aimed at discrete projects that ultimately helped the entrepreneur further develop and expand their businesses. The Commonwealth Institute is now accepting applications for Fall 2005. Program Timeline: July 1, 2005: Application deadline July 19, 2005: John Hancock Fellowship Breakfast - Simmons School of Management July 29,2005: Applicants notified of decisions Week of Aug. 15, 2005: Fellows visit entrepreneur firms Week of Sept. 6, 2005: Fellowship begins Week of Dec. 16, 2005: Final presentations and completion of John Hancock Fellowship Please click here for an application. During each fellowship cycle, WEDI members interested in applying to the John Hancock Fellowship program submit applications to TCI identifying a project within their organization that could benefit from the presence of a Simmons MBA student. TCI and Simmons then work to make the best matches of the graduates' fields of expertise and the needs of our WEDI entrepreneurs. The John Hancock Fellowship program fosters many of the goals of the Women of Ethnic Diversity Initiative including: community building, knowledge transfer and mentoring, and business enhancement. During the initial pilot (Sept-Dec 2004), the entrenuers who participated were: Radha Jalan President, ElectroChem, Inc. ElectroChem is a technology research company located in Woburn, MA. The company was founded in 1986 to provide research and development in the fuel cell industry. ElectroChem focuses on market and product development for the industry, specifically including fuel cell power systems, fuel cell test equipment and fuel cell supplies. Radha and her John Hancock Fellow will be working on developing a new product idea. Elise Chow President, Fulfillment Plus, Inc. Fulfillment Plus (FFP) is a privately held integrated direct marketing service company located in Waltham, MA. FFP, established in 1996, offers a full-service approach with the vision of being a “one stop source” for its clients. FFP's core competencies include direct marketing services, outbound sales, inbound sales, direct response sales, customer care, fulfillment service, and technology services. FFP has over 800 employees and recently expanded to the West coast of the US, opening facilities in El Dorado Hills, California. Elise and her John Hancock Fellow will be working on a strategic plan for growth. Valerie Wrenn President and CEO, Engineering Management Support, Inc. Engineering Management Support, Inc. (EMSI) is a temporary and direct placement firm located in Billerica, MA. EMSI established and incorporated in 1991 specialize in securing and placing qualified individuals into various disciplines including: Engineering, Manufacturing, Information Technology, Medical, Sales, Clerical, and Administrative support services. Valerie and her John Hancock Fellow will be working on a project to expand EMSI's services to new markets.
