Featuring Susan Kronick, Vice Chairman of Federated Department Stores, Inc.

Susan Kronick is the Vice Chairman of Federated Department Stores. She is responsible for the company’s eight department store divisions that operate under the Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s nameplates, comprising more than 850 stores in 45 states, Guam and Puerto Rico with annual sales of approximately $27 billion.
Her 33-year Federated career has included 20 years at Bloomingdale’s, rising to Senior Executive Vice President of Stores followed by four years as President and Chief Operating Officer of Rich’s/Lazarus/Goldsmith’s (now Macy’s South), based in Atlanta. In 1997 she was named Chairman and CEO of Burdines (now Macy’s Florida), and in 2001 she was named Group President of Federated responsible for the company’s regional nameplates. She is currently presiding over the integration of Federated’s $17 billion dollar May Co. acquisition and plays a leading role in the creation of Macy’s as a national brand: Macy’s, America’s Department Store.
She has had a distinguished career that has encompassed a uniquely wide variety of retail management responsibilities including merchandising, marketing, operations, finance, real estate and stores. Throughout her career she has counseled, mentored and influenced the futures of scores of individuals.
Ms. Kronick is a member of the Board of Directors of The Pepsi Bottling Group and serves as Chairman of the Compensation Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee. She has a diverse community service background having served on the boards of the United Way, YMCA and Exodus Cities and Schools for at-risk children. Ms. Kronick is a strong advocate of women’s health issues. She initiated the launch of mammogram centers at Macy’s in both Atlanta and Miami.
Ms. Kronick, a native of Brooklyn, New York, is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Connecticut College. She lives in Coral Gables, Florida with her husband, Edward Shumsky.
